The Big Texan

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

Day two of our three day journey back home.  We were able to add three more states to our map of states we have been in the RV.  This brings our total down to 7 more states to cover.  (Actually 6, because we really can't count Hawaii!)  Today we drove through New Mexico, Texas (new), Oklahoma (new), Arkansas (new) and stopped in Branson, Missouri for the night.  We headed out at 6am from Albuquerque, New Mexico and landed in Branson at midnight.  What a loooooong day!!

While driving through Amarillo, Texas, we discovered that we would be driving right by the Big Texan Steakhouse, home of the free 72oz steak. (If you can eat it in an hour.)  If you have seen the movie "Guilt Trip" with Seth Rogen and Barbara Streisand, this restaurant was featured in the movie.  (Barbara Streisand's character was able to finish the 72oz steak in an hour.)  It was actually lunch time as we were passing through, so of course, we had to stop.  It had all the "fixings" for a true cowboy steakhouse...the decor was very western looking, we were serenaded by a cowboy singing Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson songs, and I accidentally stumbled upon a live diamondback rattlesnake while shopping in the gift shop.  (Luckily, it was in a glass cage, but I still wasn't expecting it!)  It was a good thing that the atmosphere was great because the food wasn't.  On Mike's grading scale of food,  he gave it a C-.  But hey, at least we can say we had been there!

After breakfast at the Waffle House, (Mike's choice), we left Branson, Missouri and headed for Home Sweet Home!  If all goes as planned, we will be arriving home around 5:30 this evening.  We have had a great experience making memories with our boys that will last us a lifetime!  Until next year...
